My Pet Mistakes Story
For nearly 30 years, I bought my pets’ food and treats from stores without thinking twice. Like most pet owners, I believed if it was on the shelf, it had to be safe. It was easy — drive to the store, grab a bag, and feed your pets. That’s what so many of us have done.
Over the years, we’ve had many pets, and right now we share our home with two dogs and two cats. As I write this, both of our dogs are over 13 years old — large breeds that have already outlived their expected lifespan.
The biggest change I made was simple: I stopped feeding corporate pet food and started giving them real, wholesome food.
The results were incredible.
They lost unhealthy weight, became more active, and started acting younger again.
Ralph, on the left, is a St. Bernard and Rhodesian Ridgeback mix. Habbible, on the right, is believed to be a Bulldog and Rottweiler mix.
Habbible’s story changed everything for me.
One night, he ran into the backyard like he always did. A few moments later, he came back limping badly. By the time he got inside and laid down, he could barely walk. I took him to two veterinarians, and both told me the same thing — there was nothing they could do and I needed a specialist.
The neurologist ran X-rays and diagnosed him with a torn ACL. The surgery would cost $7,000.
We couldn’t afford it.
For two months, I had to carry him outside in a harness just so he could go to the bathroom. During that time, I made another major change — I committed fully to feeding him real food.
Within two months, he started slipping out of the harness and walking on his own.
By four months, he no longer needed help at all.
Today, Habbible runs around the backyard and jumps on the bed every night like nothing ever happened.
That journey opened my eyes.
I truly believe real food is one of the biggest keys to a healthier, longer life for our pets. That belief is what inspired Furswell — to create clean, wholesome, organic treats made with ingredients pet owners can trust.
